Dr. Leonard Kibuule is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with over 20 years of experience treating patients with complex spinal conditions. He brings to Minivasive Pain & Orthopedics a rare combination of surgical innovation, academic distinction, and patient-centered care that has earned him recognition at the highest levels of his field.
Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Kibuule earned an engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a foundation that has contributed to his precision-driven approach to spine surgery. He went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, followed by his orthopedic surgery residency at Creighton University and the University of Nebraska. He then completed a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, one of the country’s most respected spine training programs.
Dr. Kibuule specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery and has particular expertise in the treatment of adult scoliosis, spinal deformities, and motion-preserving procedures. He is also a pioneer in Single-Position Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion (OLIF),which is an advanced surgical technique that allows the entire spinal fusion procedure to be completed without repositioning the patient mid-surgery. By eliminating the need to reposition between surgical phases, this approach significantly reduces operative time, minimizes anesthesia exposure, and lowers the risk of perioperative complications; representing a meaningful advancement in both patient safety and surgical efficiency.
A nationally recognized surgical educator, Dr. Kibuule has shared his techniques at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the North American Spine Society (NASS), the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and teaching facilities across the country. Over nearly a decade, he has personally trained more than 500 surgeons in advanced spine techniques which is a testament to the trust his peers place in his expertise and the impact of his contributions to the field.
His clinical excellence has been recognized at the national level as well. Newsweek Magazine named Dr. Kibuule one of America’s Top 150 Spine Surgeons in both2024 and 2025, which is one of the most competitive and meaningful distinctions in spine surgery today. He has also been recognized as one of D (Dallas) Magazine’s Best Doctors eight times, in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Dr. Kibuule is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and a member of the North American Spine Society.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kibuule is an avid athlete and certified scuba diver who also enjoys skiing, biking, hiking, and traveling the world.
Dr. Kibuule is now seeing patients at Minivasive Pain & Orthopedics locations across the greater Houston area.
