Vivek P. Kushwaha, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at Minivasive Pain & Orthopedics, serving patients throughout the Greater Houston area. Specializing in adult degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, Dr. Kushwaha is dedicated to cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments that restore mobility, alleviate chronic pain, and optimize patient outcomes.

A native Texan, Dr. Kushwaha earned his Bachelor of Arts from the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He completed a general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA Medical Center, then pursued advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, California.

Dr. Kushwaha excels in treating complex spine disorders, including cervical and lumbar degenerative conditions, orthopedic injuries, and abnormalities in patients aged 12 and older. His expertise encompasses complicated revision surgery, kyphoplasty, artificial disk replacement, microdiskectomy, and minimally invasive spinal instrumentation and fusion—always prioritizing a conservative approach before surgery. This aligns perfectly with Minivasive’s mission of evidence-based, patient-centered care that minimizes recovery time and enhances quality of life.

As Chief of Spine Surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and a faculty member at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Dr. Kushwaha co-directs the Spine Fellowship and teaches residents, fellows, and medical students. He serves as a consultant for leading companies like Medtronics, Synthes Spine, SeaSpine, and Spine Frontier, and is a prolific author with numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations on advanced spine techniques. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, he holds memberships in the North American Spine Society, Western Orthopedic Association, Texas Orthopedic Association, Harris County Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha, and Texas Medical Association.

Recognized as one of “America’s Top Physicians” by The Consumer Research Council of America and recipient of the Memorial Hermann Hospital Award for “Most Efficient Surgeon,” Dr. Kushwaha was the first in Houston to perform kyphoplasty and lumbar artificial disk replacement.
