Edmund H. Choi, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in all aspects of spinal disorders, including upper cervical, thoracic, lumbar and coccygeal disorders. He has been recognized by teaching institutions as one of the most experienced spine surgeons in California. He joins Minivasive Spine and Orthopedics having practiced in Los Angeles. Dr Choi is a leader in orthopedic and neurosurgical computer navigation spine surgery. He is most interested in rapid recovery surgery, minimally invasive spine surgeries, outpatient ASC surgeries to get patients comfortably home the same day, and getting patients back to being active and with less pain. He was specialty trained in neurosurgical and orthopedic complex spine surgery at Scripps Clinic San Diego. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, the strict membership specialty society for surgeons focused in the field of spinal deformities. He is member of the Journal Editorial Review Board for Orthopedics Journal.

A graduate of the University of California at San Diego in La Jolla, California, he earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Choi completed his surgical internship at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York, and his orthopedic surgery residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center/New York Presbyterian, New York, with a pediatric orthopedic rotation at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Dr Choi completed additional training through an orthopedic and neurosurgical spine fellowship at Scripps Clinic, San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders in San Diego, California.

Dr Choi has been involved in both clinical at Scripps and basic science research at
postgraduate work at Caltech in MRI research. He has authored scientific articles on spine and orthopedic conditions and has written textbook chapters on orthopedic techniques. With extensive training in state of the art surgical and nonsurgical techniques of the spine, Dr Choi’s goal is to assure his patients get the most effective treatment for their spine condition. During his years of experience and practice, he has developed expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, management and treatment of adult and pediatric spinal deformities and scoliosis, evaluation and treatment of herniated disc disease throughout the entire spine, cervical, thoracic and lumbar, as well as traumatic spine fractures and vertebral compression fractures. Dedicated to keeping patients active throughout every stage of their life, Dr Choi uses evidence-based treatment plans tailored to patients’ individual needs to help them back to what they love to do.

Dr Choi lives in Houston with his wife and two children. In his limited time, Dr Choi loves sports and all aspects where you will see him at your local baseball field catching a game.
